I’m super excited about this latest podcast. Episode 8 features Kathryn Kellogg, a zero-waste advocate. Basically, it is her goal to eliminate putting anything into the waste stream. If she can’t recycle it or reuse it, she avoids it.
With dedication, ingenuity, and discipline, Kathryn and her husband Justin, have reduced their non-recyclable waste over the last two years. Believe it or not, their waste now fits into two mason jars. You heard that right! That is 8 ounces of non-recyclable waste PER YEAR! And they’re on a mission to reach zero waste in the near future.
Only generating 8 ounces of non-recyclable trash a year (4 ounces each) is truly impressive. This is especially true, as the average American generates about 4.1 pounds of trash PER DAY. Of that amount, only about 34% will be recycled. Kathryn Kellogg shares how she has been able to alter her habits and drastically reduce her waste stream while still living a “normal” life.
Kathryn is focused, resourceful and committed to improving her relationship with the planet. Additionally, she’s educating others on how to do the same. Finally, and best of all, she is super funny and was a pleasure to interview. Kathryn has been interviewed by The Guardian, NPR, and National Geographic.
Honestly, I’m not even sure how we managed to get her our show. Listen, learn and enjoy from this true environmental steward and all-around nice person.
I hope you enjoy this episode of “How Does That Happen” and will share it with your family and friends. Feel free to leave a review on iTunes or whatever platform you’re listening on.
